Like a 'rollercoaster': passengers describe harrowing flydubai flight

As flight FZ 1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv approached the Jordanian border on Wednesday, passengers knew in an instant that something was wrong when the plane began plummeting from the sky in a rapid dive. It was like "we were having very big turbulence, but there was no turbulence", passenger Almog Italie told AFP, describing the sensation of losing thousands of feet of altitude in seconds as similar to riding a "rollercoaster". FRANCE 24's August Hakansson reports.

What's Gone in macOS Golden Gate and What's Next in macOS 28

What's Gone in macOS Golden Gate and What's Next in macOS 28

With macOS Golden Gate , Apple phased out several legacy features and services, cutting support for older devices and accessories. More cuts are coming in macOS 28 as Apple continues to root out lingering Intel features. Here's everything that's been dropped. Support for Intel Macs - ‌macOS Golden Gate‌ is the first version of macOS that runs only on Apple silicon Macs. Intel Macs can't run it and are limited to macOS Tahoe . Apple still plans to offer security updates through fall 2028. Boot Camp Assistant - Since ‌macOS Golden Gate‌ doesn't run on Intel Macs, it doesn't support Boot Camp. Apple silicon Macs require virtualization software like Parallels or VMware Fusion to run Windows. Rosetta 2 (Temporarily) - Upgrading to ‌macOS Golden Gate‌ removes Rosetta, but if you have an app installed that requires it, you can reinstall it. ‌macOS Golden Gate‌ is the last version of macOS that will have full Rosetta support. Apple Filing Protocol - Apple deprecated AFP back in macOS Sequoia 15.5, and there is no AFP client at all in ‌macOS Golden Gate‌. Time Capsule Backups - With no support for AFP, Time Capsule no longer works with Macs running ‌macOS Golden Gate‌. Time Capsule requires AFP or SMBv1, but Time Machine backups now use the SMBv2 or SMBv3 protocol. AirPort Utility - AirPort Utility is no longer included when you install ‌macOS Golden Gate‌. If you had the app before updating, you can still use it, but Apple makes no guarantee that it still works. AirPort Utility lets users manage AirPort base stations like the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express. macOS 28, which is expected in fall 2027, will largely drop support for Rosetta 2. Most apps that rely on Rosetta will not open on Macs running macOS 28, though Apple is making an exception for some legacy games that are unmaintained. In ‌macOS Golden Gate‌, you'll see a warning when using any app that relies on Rosetta, so you're aware that the app won't continue to work in the future without a developer update. You can also see which apps are affected by going to Settings > General > About > Intel-Based Apps and then clicking on Details. Ethiopia's Tigray rebels in 'full-blown' war with govt

Tigray rebels in Ethiopia told AFP on Thursday they were in a state of "full-blown war" with the federal government, as heavy artillery attacks were reported in neighbouring states. Tensions have been rising for months between the federal government and the authorities in the northern Tigray state, who fought a devastating civil war in 2020-2022 that killed more than 600,000 people, according to African Union estimates.

Mona Al Marri tours AFP’s expanded Dubai office as the news agency strengthens its Gulf operations

Dubai: Her Excellency Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council and Chairperson of the Arab Media Summit Organising Committee, toured Agence France-Presse’s (AFP) newly expanded office in Dubai Media City, following its inauguration. The opening was attended by Her Excellency Marie Audouard, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of France to the UAE and His Excellency Jean-Christophe Paris, Consul General of France in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. The inauguration coincides with the Arab Media Summit 2026, held in Dubai from 15 to 17 September, in which Phil Chetwynd, AFP Global News Director, participated as a speaker alongside prominent media figures from the region and around the world. Her Excellency Mona Al Marri toured the expanded office accompanied by Phil Chetwynd, AFP Global News Director; Ezzedine Said, AFP Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa; and Christian Otton, Editor-in-Chief, Middle East & North Africa. During the tour, she was briefed on AFP’s operations in Dubai and across the region, as well as the expanded office’s role as a hub for the agency’s news coverage across the Gulf. Picture credit: GDMO AFP was among the first international media organisations to establish a base for its regional operations in Dubai, where it has maintained a significant presence for more than three decades. Its expanded office serves as a key base for news operations across the Gulf and one of the agency’s main editing centres for the Middle East and beyond, as AFP continues to expand its operations and teams in Dubai. Al Marri said AFP’s expansion reflects Dubai’s position as a hub where global media organisations can grow their operations. “Dubai has developed a media ecosystem that attracts leading organisations, talent and expertise from around the world. AFP’s continued expansion reflects the confidence international media organisations place in the city and its ability to connect audiences and markets across the region and beyond. At a time of rapid change in the industry, the Arab Media Summit brought together leading voices to exchange ideas and perspectives. We are pleased that AFP is beginning a new chapter in its longstanding relationship with Dubai,” Her Excellency added. Phil Chetwynd, AFP Global News Director, said: "We are pleased to expand our presence in Dubai which is a key location for AFP bridging the Middle East to Asia and Europe." During the tour, Al Marri met AFP’s editorial and operational teams and discussed with officials the technological and industry shifts reshaping global journalism.

Reminder: macOS 27 Ends Time Machine Backups to Time Capsule

Reminder: macOS 27 Ends Time Machine Backups to Time Capsule

If you're upgrading to macOS Golden Gate and you have an AirPort Time Capsule, Time Machine won't be able to back up to it. macOS 27 removes support for AFP, the legacy file-sharing protocol that Time Capsule relies on for Time Machine backups. Said backups now exclusively use the SMB protocol, which Apple's discontinued Time Capsule hardware does not support in the form required by macOS 27. Apple warned users about the change back in June 2025 when macOS Tahoe began displaying a warning that Time Capsule backups would no longer work in the next macOS. Users still backing up to one will need an alternative, such as an external drive or a modern NAS. Two Alleged ‘TeamPCP’ Hackers Arrested in Australia

Authorities in Australia have arrested two men believed to be members of TeamPCP, a prolific cybercrime and data extortion group blamed for perpetrating the longest running spree of software supply chain attacks ever. In a statement released today, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) said two unnamed suspects from Western Australia, aged 21 and 23, were arrested in connection with a "sophisticated cybercrime syndicate that allegedly created malicious open-source software to rob thousands of global businesses." The AFP did not name the defendants, but KrebsOnSecurity learned the 21-year-old suspect's real identity in June, and has been communicating with him ever since. This story includes interviews with TeamPCP's self-described spokesperson, and examines clues left behind by the TeamPCP leader that likely led to his undoing.
