Forget whatever it was you thought you saw in Atlanta . We’re actually ready now. Although not, repeat not, if any part of this involves playing football in front of 6,000 excitable children, the combined effect of which was to create an atmosphere in Rijeka the adult human ear is simply not designed to process. ‘We’ll always have a scar, but this is how we move forward’ Manager praises ‘complete package’ Scott on full debut Thomas Tuchel said England have moved on from their World Cup pain after seeing his side deliver a statement performance in Rijeka and hand Croatia their biggest ever defeat. Tuchel was delighted after his front four combined to devastating effect at Stadion HNK Rijeka, where 6,200 local schoolchildren were allowed in free of charge even though the game was supposed to take place behind closed doors after Croatia were punished by Uefa for racist and discriminatory fan behaviour last year. Criminal or saviour? Manchester City whistleblower Rui Pinto splits opinion

Criminal or saviour? Manchester City whistleblower Rui Pinto splits opinion

Pinto, whose leaks of private documents prompted the investigation into Manchester City, is understood to fear for his safety More than a decade after Rui Pinto set up the Football Leaks website in a crusade triggered by the Fifa scandal in 2015, he finds himself in the middle of a growing storm. The former history student with trademark spiky hair who used to make extra cash selling books about the second world war has not held back with his statements on social media since Manchester City’s guilty verdict from an independent Premier League commission. The first targets for Pinto, whose leaks of private documents prompted first Uefa then the Premier League to investigate City’s financial affairs, were what he alleged were the club’s “cheating” executives for demonstrating “a complete lack of respect for the rules”. On Wednesday he turned his attention to the Fifa president, Gianni Infantino. Continue reading...

‘The emperor is naked’: Uefa president Ceferin takes new swipe at Infantino

Aleksander Ceferin condemns FFE and Balogun affair Tells club chiefs it is ‘time to say enough’ to Fifa The Uefa president, Aleksander Ceferin, has attacked his embattled Fifa counterpart Gianni Infantino in a scathing takedown of the failed Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) project and other recent scandals, saying “the emperor is naked” and declaring “it is time to say ‘enough’”. In a pointed address to the European Football Clubs (EFC) general assembly, Ceferin did not mention Infantino by name but made clear his view that Fifa’s leadership must change. He drew on the event’s location, Copenhagen, to make a comparison to Hans Christian Andersen’s The Emperor’s New Clothes in assessing Infantino’s conduct , making clear reference to the peace prize awarded to Donald Trump and last summer’s Folarin Balogun affair along with the FFE scheme. The Manchester City case shows us how the global mega-rich now expect to operate with impunity | Jonathan Liew

When transnational alliances have scarcely been weaker, the way the club was allegedly run offers a bleak vision of a world driven by brute power and wealth The cache of leaked emails and documents that would eventually lead to the crisis in which Manchester City are now embroiled was published by Der Spiegel in 2018 , and often it was the tone of the club’s communications that was as startling as their content. Of City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak, a trusted adviser to the royal family of the United Arab Emirates, it was said that he would “rather spend 30 million on the 50 best lawyers in the world to sue [Uefa] for the next 10 years” than accept a fine. In the same tranche of documents, City lawyer Simon Cliff asserts that “Uefa doesn’t respond to anything other than aggression”, and threatens the governing body of European football – who were pursuing City over alleged financial irregularities at the time – with “the destruction of their rules and organisation”. Fifa accuses Uefa of ‘misinformation campaign’ against Gianni Infantino

Uefa accused of trying to influence presidential election Fifa court filing denies claim of FFE undervaluation Fifa accused Uefa of waging a “misinformation campaign” and trying to influence the race for its presidency as world football’s governing body urged a US court to reject a discovery request linked to a controversial investment proposal. Last month Uefa asked a US federal court for permission to obtain testimony and documents for use in a planned criminal complaint in Switzerland against Fifa’s president, Gianni Infantino, over an abandoned plan to transfer World Cup commercial rights into a subsidiary called Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE). FIFA accuses UEFA of 'misinformation campaign' in response to filing

FIFA accuses UEFA of 'misinformation campaign' in response to filing

FIFA accused UEFA of waging a "misinformation campaign" and trying to influence the race for its presidency as world soccer's governing body urged a US court to reject a discovery request linked to a controversial investment proposal. Last month, UEFA asked a US federal court for permission to obtain testimony and documents for use in a planned criminal complaint in Switzerland against FIFA President Gianni Infantino over a now-abandoned plan to transfer World Cup commercial rights into a subsidiary called FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE). In its response to the filing on Monday, FIFA said UEFA's brief contained "numerous false or misleading statements about FIFA and Infantino". "With no basis whatsoever, UEFA suggests that Mr Infantino sought to profit personally from the FFE proposal," FIFA said in a filing in ‌the Southern District of Florida, opposing UEFA’s motion for discovery. "As explained, the FFE plan was subject to approval by both the FIFA member associations and FIFA Council, and FFE would have been subject to oversight by both groups within ‌FIFA. "UEFA's suggestions that Mr Infantino violated any law or ethical principle are categorically ‌without merit." UEFA did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. FFE valuation UEFA alleged Infantino developed the ‌proposal in secret with a small group ‌of advisers and investors, bypassing FIFA's normal governance processes and failing to consult FIFA's Council, regional confederations or member associations. The filing seen by Reuters asked a US court to authorise ‌discovery from FIFA (AMERICAS), Inc and FWC2026 US, Inc, two Florida-based FIFA entities. UEFA said in the legal filing that investors would have paid $4.2 billion for a stake in FIFA Forward Enterprise, valuing the business at about $20 billion. It added that the valuation significantly undervalued FIFA's commercial rights and alleged it was not subjected to an open auction or tested by an independent valuer. FIFA President Gianni Infantino reacts after Spain defeated North Korea in the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup final at Stadion Miejski LKS in Lodz, Poland, on September 27, 2026. (Reuters) "UEFA, whether deliberately or through ignorance, conflates equity value with enterprise value," FIFA said. "It is undisputed that FFE's 'initial equity valuation' - meaning 'the value that remains for the shareholders after any debts have been paid off' - was $20 billion. "Materials distributed to FIFA's member associations reveal that FFE's total 'enterprise value' on the other hand - meaning the 'entire value of the business' - was well over $30 billion... "Indeed, FFE's enterprise value was well in excess of twice the equity value, and therefore far above the value UEFA says would be fair." Attempt to influence election? The FFE project was abandoned in July following opposition from confederations, including UEFA, CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation, over a lack of ‌consultation, with the dispute fuelling demands for changes to FIFA's governance. Last week, Infantino wrote to all 211 member associations proposing an independent review of the governing body's decision-making processes. The Swiss administrator is up for reelection in March next year, with FIFA alleging that UEFA's legal filings were an attempt to influence that election. "Just before FIFA's election, UEFA filed this 1782 Application (and three others) spreading misinformation regarding Mr. Infantino," FIFA said. "This court should reject any attempt to influence FIFA’s presidential election based on these grounds."
