macOS 27.2 Further Hints at MacBook With Touch-Enabled OLED Display

macOS 27.2 Further Hints at MacBook With Touch-Enabled OLED Display

The latest macOS 27.2 beta released this week further hints at the long-rumored MacBook with a touchscreen, which is expected to be unveiled by next month. Specifically, when you click and hold on an app icon in the Dock on the third developer beta of macOS 27.2, the icon gets a little bit larger. A similar animation occurs when you long press on an iOS or iPadOS app, so the fact that the animation now extends to macOS could be another subtle clue that a touch-enabled MacBook is coming. The new animation can be seen in videos shared by @madeby_ldt and @craigapplecom . macOS 27.2 beta 3 introduces a new long-press animation for Dock icons, hinting at the upcoming touchscreen MacBook Pro https://t.co/4zfZOxy8MO — ldt (@madeby_ldt) October 5, 2026 The latest macOS 27.2 beta added other new touch gestures as well, so it seems pretty clear that Apple is gearing up for the first touch-enabled Macs. In particular, Apple reportedly plans to release new higher-end, higher-priced 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro or "MacBook Ultra" models with touchscreens in October or November . In addition to a touch-enabled OLED display, these Macs are expected to feature M5 Pro and M5 Max chips , a thinner-and-lighter design , a Dynamic Island , and potentially Apple's C1X or C2 modem for built-in cellular connectivity . I can’t use Apple’s new Screen Time on my daughter’s iPhone because my son won’t update his MacBook

I can’t use Apple’s new Screen Time on my daughter’s iPhone because my son won’t update his MacBook

After suffering years of frustration with Apple's parental control features, I've been eagerly anticipating the revamped Screen Time that launched last month with iOS 27. Unfortunately, I can't use it. Technically, this is because my 18-year-old son hasn't got round to updating his MacBook. But mostly, it's because Apple's rollout of the new feature has […]

macOS 27.2 Adds Touch Gestures Ahead of MacBook Ultra

macOS 27.2 Adds Touch Gestures Ahead of MacBook Ultra

macOS Golden Gate 27.2 adds code referencing new touch-specific gestures in apps like Safari, Notes, Photos , and Quick Look, a possible sign Apple is preparing to release the rumored OLED touchscreen MacBook, possibly called the "MacBook Ultra." Code in the latest beta adds new gesture recognition tools to several Apple apps. Safari gets a touch sentinel recognizer, ‌Photos‌ has PXGTouchDwellGestureRecognizer, Notes has ICTouchPressGestureRecognizer, and Quick Look gets a dragTouch feature. While the code could be for the touchscreen MacBook, it's also applicable to Sidecar . ‌macOS Golden Gate‌ brought full touch input to ‌Sidecar‌, which is the feature that lets an iPad be used as a display for a Mac. It's possible Apple is expanding on those ‌Sidecar‌ features, so it's not a clear indication of a new Mac. Touch-friendly changes started with the launch version of ‌macOS Golden Gate‌, which added pull-to-refresh gestures in Safari, Mail, and Calendar. An ‌OLED‌ MacBook Ultra with touchscreen capabilities could launch as soon as late 2026. The device is rumored to be thinner and lighter than existing models, and it's expected to have a Dynamic Island and Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max chips . Googlebooks feel like the first laptops built for Android owners

There's a good chance that my next laptop will be a Googlebook. If you're an Android user like me, then yours might be too, because Google is making a compelling pitch: The Googlebook does for the Android phone what the MacBook does for the iPhone (and then some). John Maletis, Google's head of laptops and […]
