Classic Board Games Are Dropping to All-Time Low Prices Ahead of Amazon's Prime Day Sale

Classic Board Games Are Dropping to All-Time Low Prices Ahead of Amazon's Prime Day Sale

Amazon’s October version of Prime Day technically kicks off tomorrow, but the retailer has already dropped hefty discounts on tons of classic board games . One of the best deals brings the latest version of Catan back to its lowest-ever price, but you'll find plenty more discounts from big publishers like Asmodee and Hasbro. In other words, now's a great time to bulk up your tabletop collection and plan some fall game nights. We're Tracking the Best Board Game Deals at Amazon This Week Note: Most of these deals are exclusive to Prime members. You can sign up for that here . Some discounts are also lightning deals, meaning they will only be available for as long as stock lasts. Starting at the top, the latest version of Settlers of Catan, one of the most iconic strategy games of all time, has dropped to its lowest price of the year with a 40% discount. This resource management game is pretty accessible to any experience level, making it an easy choice for casual game nights. Other classic board games like Ticket to Ride have dropped to their lowest price since the previous Prime Day. For more veteran tabletop players, we’d recommend something like Pandemic, which features longer co-op campaigns. If you’re just looking for something quick and cheap, you can get classic Candy Land or the quick-playing Monopoly Deal card game for under $15. Themed Editions Also on Sale Amazon is also dropping deals on specific themed editions of board games. These are typically based on more casual and family-friendly versions of classic games, like the Bluey version of Monopoly Jr, offering the incentive of a franchise tie-in to bring your family to the game night table. Some of these themes also offer a little something extra for the adults, like the Duel for Middle-Earth board game we consider one of the best Lord of the Rings games money can buy. Though according to our reviewer , Matt Thrower, it’s only really worth it if you don’t already own the original 7 Wonders Duel game. Should You Wait for Lower Prices? Board games that are already on sale are unlikely to see lower prices during Prime Big Deal Day proper. However, I do think we’ll see new discounts on heavy-hitters like Wingspan that are currently missing from this list. We’ve also yet to see solid deals on trading card games and tabletop franchises like Warhammer.

The Transformers: The Movie Rolls Back into Cinemas for 40th Anniversary

The Transformers: The Movie Rolls Back into Cinemas for 40th Anniversary

Film fans with a penchant for the Transformers franchise are in for an unexpected treat this month, with the return of the highly influential animated feature, The Transformers: The Movie to cinemas on 17th September! 40 years on from its original theatrical release, Hasbro and Fathom Entertainment have joined forces for this beautifully restored 4K theatrical release, which you can also enjoy as an immersive 4DX release in the US and UK, in cinemas starting on 17th September. But that’s not all! If you’re planning to catch the film, don’t rush for the exit when the credits roll, as afterwards there will be the premiere of a brand-new 12-minute animated short, “Optimus Prime: Awakening.” Not only does this offer fans a new chapter in the saga, it also features the final original voice performance by Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime) as Optimus Prime, alongside a new performance by Frank Welker (Megatron/Soundwave). Beautifully, prior to his sad passing earlier this year, Cullen shared that this chance to return to the role had meant a great deal to him, seeing the project as a homecoming to a character he had crafted and evolved over decades. Welker echoed this sentiment, sharing that “Peter’s portrayal of Prime was born of his own personal beliefs; honesty, loyalty, and always insisting on doing the right thing…I will miss my friend, but that voice and his heart and values will always be part of Optimus Prime.” With millions of fans worldwide, the Transformers franchise explores the ongoing battle of good versus evil as the Autobots go head to head with the Decepticons who are attempting to conquer the universe. The original animated film features an incredible stellar cast including Leonard Nimoy (Galvatron), Eric Idle (Wrek-Gar) and, incredibly, Orson Welles (Unicron) in his final film role, alongside the aforementioned Peter Cullen and Frank Welker. Set in the distant future of 2005 (20 years after the original TV series’ second season) the film follows the Autobots, who are being hunted by Unicron, a Transformers robot the size of a planet. With their own home planet, Cybertron, having been conquered by the Decepticons, Optimus Prime must rally the team to fulfil their goal of protecting all life. One shall stand, and one shall fall… Of course, since then, the franchise has become a true behemoth, with 11 movies, countless animated series, and more toys and treats than you can shake an Ion Blaster at. As all true fans will know, freedom is the right of all sentient beings and on Transformers Day (17th September) you can exercise that freedom to get yourself to the cinema and catch it for yourself. Tickets are already available at this link . If you can’t wait until then, you can whet your whistles with the movie soundtrack’s “The Transformers: The Movie: The Reformatted Edition ” available on all major streaming platforms and to buy, including some very nice looking vinyl options. With iconic tracks from the original, the collection also includes the new single “Nothing’s Gonna Stand In Our Way” featuring Sebastian Bach who many would know as the frontman of 1980s hard rock band Skid Row. As you would expect from a leading toy and game company like Hasbro, there’s also some cool new toys to accompany the release. Perfect for collectors, there’s an interactive electronic replica of the Autobot’s Matrix of Leadership alongside a range of studio series figures based on the 1986 movie. With an extendable frame that allows you to display it open or closed, it also includes LED lighting in its core, and the song “The Touch” by Stan Bush from the film. There’s also a great new range of action figures from established partner Studio Series. If you want to keep abreast of all of this and more, you can follow @TransformersOfficial on Instagram and TikTok, and @Transformers on X and Facebook. For tickets, go here .

Hasbro Responds to DHS Using AI Optimus Prime in Deportation Posts

Hasbro Responds to DHS Using AI Optimus Prime in Deportation Posts

Hasbro has responded to the Department of Homeland Security’s recent AI-generated social media posts that used the likeness of the Hasbro-owned character, Transformers’ Optimus Prime , to promote its deportation program, stating that DHS’ posts were created without their consent. One DHS ad is an AI-generated fake movie poster for “Transformers: Age of Deportation” featuring Optimus Prime with DHS and ICE insignia. A second DHS post showed Optimus face to face with a Sikh man, declaring, “Self-deport or find out” and “America for Americans. Get off our roads; you don’t know how to drive Mr Singh.” That post – which the DHS has since deleted – was widely blasted as being blatantly racist. Hasbro responded Thursday with the following statement on their Instagram account : “Optimus Prime is a beloved character who represents humility, leadership, compassion and justice. Hasbro is aware of the recent posts using his likeness. These posts were done without permission and do not represent the Transformers brand or Hasbro.” As Entertainment Weekly points out, the DHS’ Optimus Prime spots were also criticized for coming on the heels of the death of Peter Cullen , the actor who voiced Optimus for decades. Cullen’s final performance as the iconic Autobot leader will be in Optimus Prime: Awakening, an upcoming short film that will be presented with 40th anniversary screenings of The Transformers: The Movie . The Trump Administration widely uses (often AI-generated) imagery and videos that appropriate pop culture in their social media posts. The DHS’ Optimus Prime posts come on the heels of the White House’s AI video featuring President Trump as a Green Lantern and the release of the designs for new Space Force uniforms that have been likened to those worn by the Galactic Empire in the Star Wars franchise or by the soldiers in Starship Troopers, a sci-fi film that lampoons fascism.
