Also: ATC Modernization Will Cost More, X-VOLT Returns, 415 Paper Airplanes, F-117 Nighthawk Joins NASM Kissimmee Gateway Airport is preparing to increase general aviation landing fees and expand its relationship with Vector Airport Systems, replacing ADS-B-based aircraft identification with a camera network. Shades of FLOCK, eh? Maybe, AERO-FLOCK? Items on the September 22 Kissimmee City Commission consent agenda would raise the fixed-wing fee 25 percent, from three dollars to three dollars and seventy-five cents per one-thousand pounds of maximum certified landing weight. Rotary-wing aircraft would pay a flat twenty-dollar fee per operation. The School of Aerospace at the University of North Dakota is under federal investigation and is being accused of submitting incomplete, inaccurate and untimely government disclosures, possibly in regards to investment from Chinese aviation companies. The U.S. Department of Education and the State Department announced the move in a press release. According to the departments, UND is a recipient of significant federal awards to its School of Aerospace’s “uncrewed air systems.” A major leadership change is unfolding at the National Business Aviation Association just weeks before its biggest annual gathering. Dan Hubbard is stepping into the association's day to day leadership role while President and CEO Ed Bolen takes a leave of absence for cancer treatment. At the same time, Heidi Williams is moving into a newly elevated operations position that places her closer to NBAA's work with regulators and the wider aviation industry.
